GCMS Elementary students have a long history of participating in student-selected book awards. This year, once again, student may take part in the Monarch, Bluestem, or Rebecca Caudill.
Voting for all three awards will take place during library classes. Monarch and Bluestem: First week of March Rebecca Caudill: Last week of February. More information will be given during library classes. |
MonarchOnly Illinois students in grades
K-3 may vote . 2018-2019 is the 12th year GCMS elementary will participate in the Monarch. Students must read 5 or more books to vote. The Monarch Award was designed to encourage Illinois children to read critically and to become familiar with children's books, authors, and illustrators. This award is named for the Monarch butterfly and symbolizes growth, change, and freedom that characterize the emergent reader. The Monarch Award is given annually to an author and/or illustrator of a book voted as their favorite by participating K-3 children in Illinois. 2018-2019 Monarch Titles

BluestemOnly Illinois students in grades
3, 4, or 5 may vote 2018-2019 is the 8th year GCMS Elementary will participate in the Bluestem. Students must read 4 or more books to vote. The Bluestem Award was created to fit in between the Rebecca Caudill and Monarch Awards. Named in honor of Big Bluestem, the state prairie grass, this award may include both timeless classics and current titles, as well as books that have appeared on Rebecca Caudill and Monarch lists. This award is designed for students who are ready for longer titles than those found on the Monarch list, but not quite ready for the sophistication of some of the titles on the Rebecca Caudill list. 2018-2019 Bluestem Titles

4-8 may nominate and vote. 2018-2019 is the 16th year GCMS Elementary will participate in the Rebecca Caudill Young Reader's Book Award Students must read 3 or more books to vote. The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award was developed to encourage children and young adults to read for personal enjoyment. The award is named in honor of Rebecca Caudill who lived and wrote in Urbana, Illinois, for nearly 50 years. The award is given in recognition of her literary talent and the universal appeal of her books which have touched the hearts of many children and young adults. 2018-2010 Rebecca Caudill Titles
